Before it was a maritime museum, the USS Midway served the US Navy for 47 years. The carrier has sailed all over the world and participated in several conflicts, including Vietnam combat operations and Desert Storm. Some of the sailors serving on the Midway during those 47 years made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Their names are listed in the Midway chapel memorial board, and you can find their names here.
